Tafwyl - Hiraeth map launched

Tafwyl - Hiraeth map launched - 17/06/2013

The Fund for Wales team spent the day at Tafwyl in Cardiff Castle on Saturday, chatting to visitors about why they love Wales, and telling them how they can leave their mark on Wales by giving to the Fund for Wales campaign. Tafwyl, a festival promoting the Welsh language in Cardiff, was opened this year by the welsh actor Matthew Rhys and saw over 11,000 visitors come to enjoy the live music, literary debate and welsh learning sessions on offer at the event.

We had a specially made 'daffodil heads' photo board which was very popular with people wanting to capture their day at the festival with the Fund for Wales. For those wishing to become part of the Fund for Wales community of donors they were able to join our special ‘Hiraeth’ map. Using a Polaroid camera, supporters photos were instantly added to the map along with their own words explaining why they love Wales and pinning their picture in their favourite place.

Whilst phone cameras were at the ready to snap family and friends in our daffodil boards many texted RHOI05 £5 to 70070 to donate £5 to the Fund for Wales.  It was great to remind everyone that their gifts would be doubled thanks to the Fund for Wales BIG Match Challenge, meaning £5 became a £12.50 donation for Wales if the gift aid form was completed.

'One Love Wales' was the message from a Jamaican donor, with our youngest member to join our community of philanthropists saying he loved Wales because he likes the beach in Tenby!

The map filled up throughout the festival, giving us a true picture of how much people love their communities and Wales!

A special thank you to the team at the Community Foundation in Wales and Catrin Hopkins who volunteered at the Fund for Wales tent throughout the day. Congratulations also to all at Tafwyl for organising such a fantastic event.
