Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club

Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club

Barry Beavers Swimming Club is a volunteer run organisation which provides swimming lessons for people with disabilities. The club is the only one of its kind in the area with over 80 people attending the club every week. In addition to members benefiting from the physical therapy of these fun lessons the sessions  are also an inclusive and safe environment giving people a chance learn new skill and make new friends with confidence.

The Fund for Wales awarded Barry Beavers a grant of £1,000 to cover the increasing costs of pool hire and specialist transport which allowed the members to attend, and take part in, amateur swimming competitions all over the country.

With 12 committed volunteers this club works tirelessly to help disabled people across the Vale of Glamorgan meet new people, stay physically active and build self-confidence, which all contribute to having such a positive life enhancing difference on their lives.

As well as allowing the project to keep running the Fund for Wales grants has also meant that the club has expanded, welcoming new members to benefit from what the club has to offer.
